The Celebrity Shopping Trolley - Clare Nasir
Is her shopping trolley a forecast of stormy times ahead? I thinks that TV weather girl Clare Nasir is sailing into blue skies, sunny days and a really healthy future.
Normally my heart sinks when I read about yet another celeb producing a fitness DVD and diet plan as mostly they are appalling and the nutrition advice comes from their ’guru’ with a weekend diploma or mail order qualification.
Clare’s is very different with great diet advice from Martin MacDonald, a graduate of the world renowned sports science department at Loughborough University.
Breakfast is porridge with natural low fat yoghurt and mixed berries or a two egg white omelette with three desert spoons of oat bran whisked into the mix. Then when it is cooked, she tops it with vanilla low fat yoghurt and a dusting of cinnamon. Apart from the egg white omelette these are both good starts to the day, but what on earth is wrong with whole eggs? The yolks contain most of the nutrients and even the diet establishment now say they should be rehabilitated.
When it comes to lunch time first choice is a high protein salad with prawns, smoked salmon, ham, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, boiled egg, chopped Jalapeño peppers, a sprinkling of Superfood seeds, celery and beetroot.
Alternatively stir fry tuna with Moroccan spices. onion, bean sprouts, red and green peppers, mushrooms, sweetcorn , sliced horse chestnuts, a can of tuna and crème fraiche, all served with couscous.
These are both hugely healthy and nutritious EXCEPT FOR THE HORSE CHESTNUTS WHICH ARE VERY POISONOUS I assume that Clare meant sweet or water chestnuts – if not I hope there is no bad snow blocking the road to the nearest A&E department.
Clare’s dinner meals are both first rate combinations of protein, good fats and the best sort of carbohydrates. Baked white fish with chopped chilli, sliced ginger, spring onions and sesame seeds on a bed of ratatouille is making my mouth water. The second choice of chicken, baked in garlic and onions and a roasted mix of courgettes, sweet potato, peppers and carrots leaves me waiting for an invitation, in fact I might just turn up one evening.
The snacks of carrot are fine, but I hope that the ham is lean and preferably organic as the fat in naturally reared animals is much healthier and it would be free from most of tha chemical additives in commercial meat products.
Water is Clare’s favourite non-alcoholic drink, but she prefers it fizzy and that’s OK except the artificially sparkling waters can be acidic and cause bloating. The naturally sparkling Badoit from France is the best.
With eggs, ham, tomatoes, natural yoghurt and porridge always in her trolley Clare won’t go far wrong. She obviously loves her food and likes to cook it fresh from scratch, both the healthiest and cheapest way to feed a family.
I cant believe the idiot who persuaded her that a weekly glass of white wine, the occasional bacon butty for breakfast and a family Indian take away a few times a year could possible be a sin. I’ve never heard such a bad forecast, not even on the telly.
But please Clare, keep away from the conkers!
